Using red or blue crayons, students will practice reading words and identifying short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds.
They’ll color in Election Day-themed imagery like ballot box, stars, Uncle Sam hats, and banners, all in red and blue. When they’re finished, the picture is super cute!

About the Worksheet
👉 Who is this worksheet for? This worksheet is appropriate for students around a second grade reading level.
For the words to be decodable, students should know all five short vowel sounds, blends, digraphs, and the most common long vowel spellings like VCe, ai/ay, ee/ea, y as vowel, and -igh.
👉 What do I need to get started? After printing, every kid needs a red and blue crayon. That’s it!
Long Vowel Words
Pain, say, need, nine, hay, hole, hide, hope, my, neat, mane, tune, scope, skate, feet, file, we, tape, fail, read, maze, so, kite, lake, meet, use, play, Pete, tube, high, stay, fly, sheep.
Short Vowel Words
When, must, hog, rugs, mat, gap, fun, shed, cast, dot, chip, sad, chess, fuzz, dot, risk, west, mad, fun, skull, ten.
