Why We Love It

We love to celebrate Mother’s Day with educational activities! And these Mother’s Day acrostic poem printables are the perfect way to celebrate Mom and/or Grandma while building literacy skills.

Acrostic poems use the letters in a word to build sentences or phrases about one topic. Acrostics help students to think creatively, using the beginning letters to create sentences or phrases about a certain topic.

One worksheet features the word mother and the other features the word grandma, so children can decide who they’d like to write about and share the things they know and love about that person.

They can make the phrases rhyme or not, whatever they decide! It can be as silly or serious as they’d like, too!

Tips & Info

  • The completed worksheet makes the perfect gift to tuck inside Mother’s Day cards!
  • Once the poems are finished, students can read them out loud to the class.
  • When we use these in the classroom, we like to give students complete choice over whether to write about their mother and/or grandmother. We always mention that they can think of someone who’s like a mother if they’d prefer that (a friend, neighbor, teacher, even a character from a book, etc.). This is important to ensure everyone feels included in the activity.
